Default I Have Decided To Do It !

I think I have made a decision in my life .. and moved into the realm of my mentor Jack Price and to only carve minatures exclusively like he does except for some of the u- tube videos .. I know I can never get up to Jacks caliber .. but I appreciate him so much for starting me in doing the little fellows .. He is a great guy ..

I have always known they are my love of carving and doing them is my favorite pieces to do ..

The two fellows are example of a request by another carver to duplicate a larger carving I did and the second one unfinished is the finished minature ( except for painting) I did for the u -tube videos ..

Each fellow is 3 1/4 inches tall from basswood in the flat plane style ..

Thanks for looking ..

Gene

That's great Gene. The new video is awesome an I am enjoying it. I have Jacks Carving Small Characters book and I can see a lot of similarities in the way you carve a head. Very cool. You have developed into your own style however. I ordered Jacks CD with patterns on it and also the DVD from Richard Stamats yesterday. Can't wait to get them. I think it is easy to blow the patterns up a bit and make larger figures ( 3 x 1 1/2 X 1 1/2 ) by increasing them by 25 - 50 % and making a larger pattern.
I think you are selling yourself short, you do awesome work Gene. You could easily do a book on your style in my opinon and have it sell. Let alone DVD's.

Neat little guys Gene. Will pray that the decision will be a good one. You have the skills and experience, the passion for it seals the deal.

Gene,

I consider you one of the best at carving the little guys. I really think you could get a book deal with step by step instructions. Stick with it my friend! I really enjoy where you are going with your carving and instruction!

gene,

i agree with the others you sell yourself short you are a great carver, and you have taught me that a carving does not need alot of detail to be a good one, i like the way you carve using just enough detail to make the peice interesting, thanks for all the help you give and have given us all.

Thank you all for the kind words and the encouragement ... Coming from wonderful carvers like yourself is humbling ...

Were all just trying to learn from one another and in the process we have made some great friends in this message board .. Even though some of us have never met .. we all feel we have a certain bond between us in friendship ..
No one could meet anyone better then the carvers on WCI board and I thank you for your comments because thats what helps each of us move to the next level in friendship and encouragement ..

God Bless Fellows and Ladies

Gene

Hi Gene, If you enjoy doing MINNIES then your decision is the right one. If a person can find something that they do well and enjoy doing it they are very fortunate. All I know is I enjoy anything that you do . That's my decision and I'm sticking to it. Keep it up OLE FRIEND. Merle
