This came up once before (long ago) and I went to the golf course and dug a bunch of them out of the pond, cut them in half, and posted a long item on the internal colors. Might be in the recovered posts someplace.

Found it!

O.K. Folks got up early this morn and made a tour of the golf course hunting lost balls. Brought them back the the shop and got to cutting. Here's what I've got so far, but be advised I do not have normal color perception. Not color blind, just don't always see colors exactly as they are.

Top Flite XL3000 Super Long - Blue
Top Flite Strata Tour 90 - light green
Top Flite XL2000 Extra Long - Pink
Top Flite XL2000 Aero Extra Carry - Pink
Top Flite XL Pure Distance More Carry - Grey
Top Flite Tour 100 - Light greenish blue
Top Flite XL Tour Trajectory - Blue
Top Flite XL3000 Super Straight - Grey
Top Flite XL Ti Titanium Extreme 100 - Blue
Wilson Ultra Tour Titanium Straight Distance - Pink
Wilson Pro-Staff Tour Accuracy - Blue
Wilson Pro-Staff Performance Spin - Blue
Wilson Ultra Tour Titanium Straight Distance - Pink (very thick cover)
Wilson Smart Core Professional Distance - Brownish Grey
Wilson Rely7Gcr - Light Yellow
Wilson Ultra 432 - White
Dunlop Advanced Ti Distance - Orange
Dunlop DDH Distance 110 - Grey
Titleist DT90 and DT100 - Wound (rubber bands)
Titleist HP2 90 - Blue
Titleist Pro V1 392 - Purple
Titleist DT Distance - White
Titanium M2 Maximum Distance - Grey

That's the fruits of my labor for the morning. Be aware, some of these balls are on the pricey side, upwards of $40 a dozen.

Some golf courses and golf driving ranges sell used balls for around 50 to 75 cents each. Also, Wal-Mart sells

If you can find them, there are some old KRO golfballs in our area that have some different colors in them. I'm lucky. My dad lives on a golfcourse and as he has aged, he spends more time picking golfballs up out of his yard than he does playing golf. I just go raid his stash when I get the urge to carve golfballs.

Thomp,

There was a thread in the General Carving Forum about a month ago on carving golf balls.

Issue 27 (Summer 2004) issue of WCI has an article on carving golf balls. Also, someone (Hi Ho, I think) gave a link to a site on carivng golf balls - see below.

Golfers will save their cut balls for you. As far as good balls being found on the course, they have more resale value being collected and resold for golfing. On the other hand when a golfer cuts his ball, he (never saw a she do it) will often drive it into the lake or woods taking a crazy practice swing on a shot they would not normally take. Most courses utilize their lakes for irrigation and ecological purposes and despise this tactic. It also makes the courses native tenants like foxes accustomed to golf balls in their habitat and I've seen them literally run by and snatch a ball from the fairway. Snakes will often eat golfballs, but I hate snakes so who cares.

If you take a fishbowl to your local course and explain your purpose for collecting cut balls, (along with some carved balls), you will find a generous supply. You can probably work out a deal with the course owner to sell the balls at the pro shop.

And can someone explain how to edit the smileys in the post. I'm not comprehending the tutorial under FAQ.

Ken

Sometimes I am torn between carving and reading this message board, but I learn so much from you guys. Too much fun, and so much knowledge, so little time, I can’t seem to get enough.
