Default George Whitefeather - Completed

Kansas City Show Update: George took the Blue Ribbon!!

Well....Here he is!! This is one of those projects you're glad to see finished!! He was a "Learning the Hard Way" experience. When painting, I have always used Testors Dulcoat as a final spray to kill any shiiny spots and even out the overall finish of the piece. Yesterday morning I gave him a quick spray and he immediately began to turn WHITE!!! Could have been an free-radical gene in his past somewhere but I think I finally pinned it down to a reaction between the Polyurethane varnish and the Dulcoat. WILL NOT USE THAT STUFF AGAIN!!!! My wife says she heard the cussing clear up at the house!!! Anyway.......I've made the switch to PolyScale Flat Finish #404106. This is a waterbased acryllic so there is no reaction with the urethane varnish.

I read in another thread that some carvers were concerned about others copying their work. As you can probably see from all the photos I post from all different angles, I'm not too worried about that. HOWEVER.......if you take a good look at my signature on the back of George, and on the back of all my carvings, you will note a little circle with a "c" in it. That stands for copyright. Now if George shows up on some curio stand, reproduced by the thousands in resin at some prison in China I'm gonna come looking for you. Or, if I'm competing in some woodcarving contest for the $1000 dollar first prize and I note that there are three other "George's" setting on the table next to mine, I'm going to make a few comments to the Judge.

Almost forgot.....The large silver badge on his chest is a "Peace Medal" given to him by Thomas Jefferson. It doesn't show up very well in the photo but Jefferson's face is on the medal.

Lynn, as usual, nice work! I love the crisp clean lines and the paints are perfect. Wonderful expression also. Keep up the good work.
