Default Fortune, Fame & Glory

Here is a project that I finished a few months ago that I finally got around to taking some photos of. It was my first attempt to carve something of my own design without using a pattern. All comments and critiques welcome. Please be specific and tell me what you like, and most importantly what you don't like. I hope to improve my carvings over time and your honest opinions will be most appreciated.

You did a great job on your first carving on you own .You did alot better than i could ever have done. And where you put the feet and hands make it look like its really moving i guess that was very hard to do?

brandant,

the carving looks great and good creativity, the only thing i might change would be the paint, it looks a little heavy to me but it may just be the pics. you may try thinning your paint a little more, it is acrylic paint right? also what type of sealer are you using?

just my 2 cents

Thumbs up Re: Fortune, Fame & Glory

Brandant .. I think you did a great job on creativity .. I agree with Bart .. maybe the paint could of been thinned a little .. but that is learned with time ..

But as far as a nice piece ,, he looks good .. I know you spent alot of time and thought with him .. so iam going to say you did very well ..

Excellent work. Good design and execution. The mail could use some detailing, to give the impression of it's rough surface. The position of the arms and legs is good, as is the body position. Shield and sword look good too, as does the background and surface.

Might I suggest you offer the piece to WCI for a critique in an issue? You can only improve and the tips a pro would offer would be valuable.

Great job on your first, own design, piece!

Bob

Brandant,
Great job on the piece. I especially like the dynamic stance. I too would agree the paint is a little to strong. Also on the composition side, make sure that objects such as walls do not obstruct or take away from the carving itself. But for your own design its a great piece!!

...my two cents...

I want to thank you all for your honest critiques, this is exactly what I'm looking for. Pats on the back make a guy feel warm and fuzzy, but helpful criticism makes one work hard to improve their skills and techniques.

I agree with the comments on the paint being too thick. To be honest with you, I kind of botched up the paint in spots and had to apply it a little thicker in order to cover it up. I also agree that I could have done more to improve the look of the chain mail to give it the proper texture. Good comments, keep 'em comin'.

Very impressive! The stance you have him in is terrific. That had to be hard to do. You did a great job on him!
