Default Flat plane carving exchange

I have been inspired by the flat plane carvings that Gene Messer has been posting for us and based on a number of posts it seems others have been inspired to try flat plane carving as well.

Therefore, I would like to propose a flat plane carving exchange.

Here's how to participate:
1) Anyone interested in the exchange please add your name to this thread
2) We'll keep the thread open for a few days.
3) Once the signup is declared closed I will take all names that have signed up and conduct a random drawing to pair up members
4) I will then post a list of paired up members and from that point on, your on your own to contact the other member privately and coordinate your exchange
5) As exchanges are completed, of course, it would be great to share the pictures

General guidelines would be to carve a figure in the flat plane style that is between 4" & 6" in height.

The paired up members can certainly coordinate whatever they would like to exchange, but in the spirit of the exchange, please stay with the flat plane style.

Mike,

might i suggest,

a tutorial or couple of lessons? to begin with to teach this method, before the Flat plane carving exchange..

the interest has been sparked, but there would be many more involved if they knew how to attack this style, of carving,
i myself would love to know more about flat plane, it looks so unfinished to me its attractive,
im sure there are others that might benefit from a couple lessons as well...

to be honest im so impressed with the carvings ive seen done by glen messer and others posted im getting jealous....
fact of the matter I just set down a 3/4" x 1-1/2" x 4" block of basswood i had drawn the larger man of gene messers on to, it looks really rough... and i got no idea how to properly start it... in the carving style.

maybe a tutorial or Email class to teach the concept,
one idea is daily lessons through email. or post them in the tutorial section,

dont know how i could help but im willing to aid....however i can. im purdy good at editing pictures, if i could get a straight on shot front & side. of a finished carving i could make a outline pattern that could be folded over the edge of a block and cut out with a saw,

just a thought,.

p.m. or email me. if i can help

I'm with Thomp! I'd love to do something like that but my flat plane looks more like round plane. A tutorial by someone who is in the know would sure be helpful.

I would like to be involved as well, but I really don't know flat plane carving. I'm with those who would like a tutorial.

MA, burning and carving is not the same as playing with matches and knives.
