Default Is this flat plain?

Wanted to make my contribution to the flat plane world... I hope I achieved that goal.

Sat down yesterday, did a quick sketch, off to the band saw, then to the knives.

This is what I ended up with. About 3 1/2" tall, just a little hobo.

Did have trouble with the face and paint, oh well.....

Comments welcome and critique.

Greg

greg,
I certinly am no critic
but still a nice carving,

i cant stop rounding them off and outting in too much detail, ive read it is a minimalist way of carving meaning less cutting i think...

follow this guy, the path to knowledge on this widens.

http://www.iowaartscouncil.org/progr...y-refsal.shtml
and if you can follow this page theres lots of links to other old flat plainers, tools wood and technique explanations,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Johan_Trygg
i think it worked around the tourist trade but cant find the artical again,

Greg .. I wouldnt worry about it being flat plane so much .. It's a good looking carving .. That's all that matters .. and I dont know where you missed on the face either .. it looks alright to me ..
Good paint job and antiqueing .. I really like the way you did the shoes ..

Greg .. Flat plane is just a style of using a knife .. it doesnt guarantee the carving will be good or bad .. and this one is definately good ..
Great job on the piece

You all are really kind, thank you! Sure was fun.... I think I will try to use the same pattern for several different variations.
