| | Fishing Tournament Finished I did not know that I had posted my first thread in the wrong forum (should have been works in progress). I noticed this a few days back. Sorry about the mistake.
Well, I put a net on the carving's right to fill some detail. The net has been stored in a barrel on the dock and is being stretched to check for damage/repair.
Also different from the last post, the boat is green. Now, I personally still like the carving without the boat because I think the posts are slick under the dock. With that said, the green boat is far better than the white (or red before that.)
I had thought of adding a rat on the dock . . . possibly a bird, but I think I am at the point where it is done.

| | Re: Fishing Tournament Finished Joe .. great lloking finished piece ... The net really adds to it and the whole thing looks great ...
But I have to say .. I like the scene with the boat under the docks .. it makes it look like he's getting ready to go out ...
Anyhow you choose to do it .. You did a fine job of the carving and painting both ..

| | Re: Fishing Tournament Finished Terrific scene! Well thought out and just enough detail. The only thing missing is the most important thing.....Water! You can add that a couple of ways that would really set it off. Go to a Glass company and ask for a piece of textured glass, the kind that's usually on shower doors, they'll probably give you enough to do the job. Buy a glass drill which you can find at a hardware store, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Drill a couple of holes to match your base and the piers. After sanding the edges of the glass paint the bottom a water color and mount the thing with wooden dowels to a nice base. The upper scene will hold the glass in place to the base.
If you really want to get creative mount the scene to a secondary base. Using hot-glue go around the bottom of the piers to create a ripple effect. Anchor that net to the base with a little hot-glue. Now paint the water, making it a little lighter where it hits the piers and net. Get you some 2-part epoxy at the craft store. Suspend your scene above some newspapers. Mix up half of it and pour it over the water and let it set up overnight. Mix up the rest and give it another coat. Let it stand a couple of days and then sand off the drips and mount it to a nice base.
While it's a terrific scene as it is I think you can make it a "Fantastic" scene with a little more creativity! |
