Here are a couple photos of my first cowboy...I think he's carved in the 'Flat Plane' style, but not sure... I only used a knife to carve and clean him up - didn't even use sandpaper...sooooo.... Was lot's of fun and thanks to both Gene's and Lynn's ideas, I think he turned out pretty well for my first attempt at the flat plane style... I'll leave deeper cuts for the creases next time as I think that might look better... Please comment and critique, I need all the help I can get! Thanks! Kenn

Kenn, I think your first cowboy flat plane looks absolutely awesome! Definitely flat plane, very good painting and paint scheme. Love the stance, the boots, hat, lasso. Nothing to critique here. I can only hope to carve one like that. Great job.

First cowboy, not bad at all, I suppose thats a poor way of saying, I think you did a pretty good job. I see you have that rope coiled in the right direction, I guess I learned how to do that myself from Lynn. On your next one, you will gain from what you are dissatisfied with on this one, and be the better carver for it. Most of us are our own worst critics, always striving for perfection on the next one, so go easy on yourself, thats a real good first cowboy. Earl

Kenn, I think you did good on your first cowboy. you might try reducing your paints down a little, more like a wash. All in all, he is really good. Safe Carving and God Bless, Mark |

Totally agree with Timberwolf. There is a unique style in this carving that I really like. Very cool large rectangular planes.
