Default First bottle stopper

I'm starting to feel more confident with the knife so thought it was time to undertake a bottle stopper. Hopefully the style looks familar (if not them I've wasted my money on Pete Leclairs books........NOT ) Actually I would recommend Mr. Leclairs books to anyone wanting to get started doing caricatures, I've picked up a couple of books by others and although they are helpful I think Leclair's are by far the best ( IMHO).
This character (I'm calling him Larry for reasons that I don't want to get into here ) is carved from basswood and painted with acryllics, finished with a water based varnish.
I'm finding that carving is very satisfying in many ways and you can really find out just who your friends are;.................for example when I finished this carving and needed a cork, a friend offered to drink a bottle of wine just so that I could have the cork,.............now that's what I call a friend

I like this guy! Excellent job, but you need more wine if you're going to carve more bottle toppers...need any help draining them?

A "friend" is one who is willing to drink a bottle of wine and give you the cork, if you pay for the wine; a "Friend" is one who will buy his own bottle of wine, after checking with you to make sure it has the proper cork for you...

Nice looking bottlestopper!

Hey he was my first one too! They could be brothers, I can't remember who I gave him to. Today I was working on a Patron bottle stopper for my little brother. Have to carve the hat for him, I'm trying Lynn's technique for carving hats.
