Funny this should come up. Recently at our local club meeting, each member was asked to get up and tell about how he/she got started carving. My first real carving was done at Boy Scout Camp in 1951. It was an Indian neckerchief slide. I displayed that original carving at the meeting. Later, I got to thinking. How would it turn out today knowing what I know now and with real tools. The result is displayed next to the original. Glad I keep it all these years.

The Bluebird was my first carving and a gift to my Mother, it is signed and dated 12/05 #1.

Diana is almost finished, a little more paint, touch-up and clear coat and I'll call this back burner project done, she will be signed and dated 05/08 #58

This is a good idea. It will be interesting to see how we've progressed.

My first one is supposed to be a bobcat. My latest is "The Risen Christ"

A suggestion Chipper...how about a sunburst type background on Christ, since he has risen, he would not be on the cross.....just a thought...good carving tho!

Wink Re: First and Last

Dave,

FYI, The Risen Christ carving is from Ivan Whillock's book. Many of his Risen Christ carvings are mounted on crosses. I understand what you are saying and yes your idea would make for a very nice carving too. I had just followed what Ivan had done. As you can tell though that Christ is not nailed to the cross. He is supposed to look as though he has defeated it and is rising (asscending) above it. Ivan is a master at achieving the "look" as I call it. I, for sure, have a long way to go to get close to Ivan's work, but I sure am enjoying my journey. Take care,

Chipper67
