Default Finished The Hound Dog and Coon Scene...

Got it all finished up. I decided to carve the tree trunk myself... sounded easier than trecking into the woods I painted it in oils and finished it with lacquer. I used Woodland Scenics Model RR stuff for the base along with undercoats of acrylic paint. The coon is mountain on the trunk but the hound dog is not yet mounted. It was a fun project and thank you Gene for the YouTube videos.

If you remember the old blue tick had a problem and ended up in surgery. Well the old boy hasn't been right since. He can smell them raccoons but can't seem to find them! I call this one "Hey Stupid, I'm Up Here! "

Thanks for looking... instead of posting all the photos here I will just direct you to the page since there are about 9 of them:

What's New On The Carving Bench

Thanks,
Corey

Hi Corey,

You did a great carving. I think the paint job on the hound is exceptional. Must have been tricky.

Thanks Ron. The hound dog's paint job is in oil and it really wasn't... fairly simple actually. I learned the technique from Tom Wolfe on his painting DVD that they sell at Smokey Mountain. Basically you put the black on first and put the ticking on with a wore out brush splotching it on here and there. Adding the white painting into it splotching it here and there and overlapping the black which results in the blue-gray color. I think carving dogs is my favorite right now
Thanks again,
Corey

Way to go Corey, man, your carving has progressed bt leaps and bounds. Take a look at your first carving, I'm sure you'll have a little chuckle when you put it beside this one.
