Yes I do. That book and one by Marv K are always laying around near my carving space - notice not bench, although I have a great bench my dear wife is good about my carving on the couches - covered in old sheets - in front of a ball game. So the books are nearby. Lots of sample pieces where I have tried parts of things in those books.

| | Re: Farm hand in bark John, I was all day in my garage building cabinets so I can organize my stuff, maybe I will have the nerve to show pictures of my shop, anyway to answer your question, it is the
Ella Carothers Dunnegan Gallery of Art
511 N Pike
Bolivar Mo 65613
phone 417 326 6438
A search of this will bring up a picture of the carving, if memory serves me the name is "Gus". The wife and I have admired this carving several times, things she couldn"t get over, wood pencil in the overall pockets, the clips on the overall supenders, the adjustable little strap on the back of the seed corn cap, and even the Dekalb logo on the cap front. I think this is the website The Ella Carothers Dunnegan Gallery of Art

| | Re: Farm hand in bark Thanks Earl, I did look it up. I was hoping to see some more than the promo picture but I guess I would have to drive out your way to do that. Perhaps some day the Lord will allow for such a trip thata way. Is the piece for sale or is it on display?
The details Fred can get into his pieces are stunning. I agree with your wife, you stand in awe. I do not tire of looking through the pages for Fred's book. Some day maybe I......
Hey, show the pics of the shop. Some of us have cleaner more organized ones and some (my guess, most) have the same or worse. My guess is there is a thread somewhere on the forum of shared shop pics. If not, you should start one.
Again, thanks.

| | Re: Farm hand in bark John, Fred lives about fifty miles from me. Willmar,MN He was part of an Artists tour two years ago and I went through his place. Amazing.. They let you walk through his studio (in his case its a whole house dedicated to his carving area) and he was there but busy on the phone. He had a bunch of his works around and some he was just starting and one he had finished recently. If I wasnt with someone else that day I sure would have gone through again and tried to visit with him.
I didnt know he had a book out.. What is the name please?

| | Re: Farm hand in bark Marci , Its called Sculptor in Wood " the collected woodcarvings of Fred Coglow." It's Published by Heart Prairie press of Whitewater, WI. But I don't believe the publishing company is still in business. I gave Fred a call and he was more than happy to send one out. It is a amazing collection of his work, it was like Christmas in April when it arrived. Lonnie

| | Re: Farm hand in bark Hi Marci. Boy, what I wouldn't give to live back in MN. I lived in Prinsburg - Rt 7, 20 miles from Willmar, for four years back in the late 1970', early '80's. I taught in the Christian High School there. I didn't carve back then and had no knowledge of Fred and his work. And then Kaisersatt a few miles down the road near Rochester. I'd drive down every week if still there. Would love a tour of either gentleman's studio. You got the title of Fred's book from Lonnie. Well worth it if you can get it.
Thanks for the title Lonnie. I have it and look through it regularly.
