Default Faces only a mother could love...

Since I bought Marv K's book, I've been working on faces trying to improve. I'm beginning to feel more confident anyway and I believe they look a bit better.

Here are a few samples....

(sorry for the poor picture quality)

Looks like you got the knack,
Noses and eye are tough on me,
I notice you dont have any toothy grins,
Im thinking seriously of a few of Pete LeClair books on my christmas list... maybe i could learn his methods through osmosis if i sleep with them under my pillow... becuse i surely cant figure them out with a chip knife.....

Which book and who was the writer mark k?

OK, I'm a newbie, so be gentle.

Who is Mark K, and what book is it you refer to?
I'm learning, might as well start out on the right foot!

Thanks in advance.

Yes, the book is by Marv Kaisersatt titled Creating Caricature Heads On Paper and in Wood. I got my copy from Rick at Little Shavers.

For those that haven't seen the book, it's a great book. Very detailed and the progression through the head and face make a lot of sense. The book is broken into many pages of step by step activities. It's also spiral bound so it lays nice on the table and the pages are heavy material.

Definitely worth the $.

Also, thanks for the nice comments.

Thumbs up Re: Faces only a mother could love...

Mike,

Good job on the faces. You've been busy. I have Marv's book too and it is a very good book. I'd recomend it to anyone who likes caricature carving. Take care,

Hello,

I purchased Marv's book last year, and it is without question, the best book on the market for learning face carving. I was really struggling with eyes and mouths before buying this book. I am hoping to take a class with Marv in the next year or two.

Thanks,
Dan Heine
