| | Re: Faces on the Corner of a Block To all,
Thank you so much for the kind comments. I find these guys are fun to carve mainly because I like to carve faces. I can usually come up with a pretty good face, but with the help of Phil and Vicki Bishop and Pete LeClair, my face carvings have improved a bunch. I rightfully give them all the credit in the world for being such excellent teachers. Later this wekend I will post Faces on the Corner II. If anyone sees a face they like and wants to duplicate it, please feel free to do so.
Thanks again,
Jim OH |

| | Re: Faces on the Corner of a Block Hey Thomp,
The method I use to create these guys is pretty semilar to the method in Pete's book "Carving Caricatures from Scratch". I have to admit its a whole lot easier to follow this method after taking a class from Pete and having him explain it to you first hand. Don't know if that is one of the books you have or not but its pretty good at explain' the face carving process, especially getting the face set up. Pete's books just clicked for me.
Phil and Vicki don't have any books out yet but I wish they did (Hint, Hint, Snickerbocker). Their method is mainly hands on learning which they both teach very well. Their carved faces are great and I use a lot of their face details once I have the face set up!
I guess the best advice I can offer ya is to try to find a class they are
teachin' somewhere near yer neighborhood and get out there.

| | Re: Faces on the Corner of a Block Wow....now I'm even more impressed!....those blocks were smaller than I thought, and to get that much detail in a block that size is unbelievable. Faces are my weak spot, so I am full of admiration for your work, Jim. Great detail and very very, well done! I have only taken one class, and that was with the Bishops. They are both fantastic teachers and I enjoyed it immensely. Keep up the good work, Jim. Bonnie | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
