Nice dragon - all it needs is a knight in silver armor on another base in front of it.... Claude |

That is a good looking dragon. I like the "crouched" posture. It gives him a lot of movement.

Curt, Thanks for sharing your elegant dragon. He's great, and it looks like you had fun with him! All the curves and coils in the body must have been a challenge to carve. I plan to do one myself as soon as I get my thoughts together on what I want to do, and it's nice to have inspirational examples like your dragon to look at while I'm putting the project together in my mind. Let me ask you a couple of questions about your dragon. I've ordered Tom's book, but it hasn't arrived yet. I'm assuming the wings were carved separately and then attached (or else you started with a very large piece of wood!) How large is he/her from end to end? Basswood? Did you carve the tusks and horns in place, or were they carved separately? Could you describe the finishing process a little? Did you use acrylics or oils? Is the base a piece of cottonwood bark? How did you attach the dragon to the base? Thanks Curt! Dan C. |

Don-Yes wings were done separately and attached with dowels, burned and painted to look like one piece. She was carved from basswood-3x4x12" block. The rest of the dragon is one piece. Lite sanding with 600 grit just to knock off edges, acrylics, satan polyurethane finish. Base is pine plank ground down with cutsall and cut edges with drimel & disks. Is not attached to base. Gave to son, will have to do another one for myself. You should enjoy carving one,no all of them!
