Hope it heals soon.

My personal opinion is the more I carve, the more "comfortable" I get and I tend to not be as careful.

I end up with more bandaids than when I first started...

Jim,

Sorry to hear about your injury, and I can emphasize. Many years ago, I manage to cut myself just above the left knee - cut required three stitches - and ruined a good pair of jeans as well.

Take care of yourself and hope it heals quickly. At least it won't keep you from carving.

Now I know why my pants all have little holes in the upper legs.

I stabbed myself in the chest once ...... STABBED ..... I felt so dumb .....only happend once .. so far

I always cut myself when carving. My rule is after two cuts, its time to stop for now!

Hey Randall, carved with a fellow that had this leather thong around his neck with about a 8" x 8" piece of thick leather attached to it. He liked to carve close to his upper chest area, and had stabbed himself once. That's when he put his safety device together. Since then I have seen lots of carvers hold the wood up high and close to their chest, so they can see better. Me, I'd go for the piece of leather.
