| | Desiree Hajny class I will be taking a class with Desiree Hajny this weekend. I'm kinda excited because I really like her style - carving AND teaching.
This will be my second class with her. My first was about 8 years ago and was my first class from a "professional". I should give her the credit for getting me back into carving because before then, I did not carve very much.
I have a wolf project on the back burner and hopefully this will inspire me to move it ahead on my schedule.
Here's a link to her bio from the CCA web site: http://www.cca-carvers.org/hajny.html
Anyone else ever have her as an instructor?

| | Re: Desiree Hajny class She will be in Charlotte this weekend. I believe its part of a trip through a couple Southeastern locations. I signed up about a year ago so that I could be in this little seminar. |

| | Re: Desiree Hajny class Blake, you slept through a class of hers in Townsend. Mar3-5 LOL
They told me she does a very good class. I think a lot of her classes are power, (I may be wrong) but she taught that class with hand tools.

| | Re: Desiree Hajny class I don't know anything about her classes, except I wish I had access to one, but I do know her work and admire it a great deal. She's one talented lady!!!
Her work is definately one of those..."Geez, I wish I could do that moments!"
Enjoy the class Mitchell, and offer her my respects as a fan please.

| | Re: Desiree Hajny class Last time I talked with Desiree, she uses both hand tools and power tools, depending on the class. We've got an article coming up with her that is mainly hand carving--these great, rolling animals!

| | Re: Desiree Hajny class Had the honor of meeting her several years ago at a Tulsa, OK carving show. Love her animals. Alas, she hasn't been back since to a tulsa show.
Lucky stiffs for getting to have a class taught by her. |

| | Re: Desiree Hajny class Hey Tony, the class went great. We carved a wolf pup. I did take some pics of some of her carvings, but alas - I have not finished my peice. I'll try to get some posted in the next few days.
I fought alergies all weekend and didn't really make good progress. It hurt to focus on the carving for more than a few minutes at a time. I DID learn quite a bit. She's a great teacher - allowing the carver to carve at their pace but still making sure that the important things are covered. I like that she spends time on making sure the student understands WHY they are carving certain features by understanding their subject....I don't know if I explained that well. Anyway, she spends some time on carving and burning hair texture as well as painting. She explains the color wheel and how colors affect the viewer..... |
