Thanks again everyone for the kind comments and suggestions. I will definitely work on making a dark base for this carving. I agree that it would really set it off! I will try and post another pic once it is complete.

It picked up a second in Johnson City today so I am pleased.

Blake's carving looked great at the show.

I know Blake thanked you Lynn, but I'd like to add that the detail on the money REALLY stood out as a nice touch to the piece. Great tip.

Thanks again for everyone's comments and suggestions. I know I still have a long way to go, and is one of the reasons I spend so much time on this board. Everyone here is very encouraging and willing to offer up suggestions that will help improve your work. I considered leaving the money plain but am now glad that I took everyone's advice and decided to paint it. I'm still learing and wanted to say thank you again for your help! I will take your criticism and compliments any time if it will help me improve!
