Default Could it be a Trygg?

Over the last couple months I have bought three Trygg carvings on ebay, and they are great. I am happy, but the wife told me to ease up a bit. So one day I see this little [4 1/2 inch] old man/seaman for $20.00 and figure "what the heck". Lo and behold, he is very much like a Trygg. I guess anybody could carve that style, but I am 90% sure about the eyes and face, painting is also similar, as in very simple. On the other hand, he is all one piece, not nailed to a piece of board. He is not signed, but has "Handcarved, Rustic Art Shop, Quebec" written on the bottom. Very simple, and seems pretty old, compared to my others from @ 1940. Sorry I cannot send pictures. Anybody have any info or thoughts?
Thanks,
Jim

Jim,
There's a Trygg on ebay right now at $51 with 6 bids. It has 2 marks on the bottom and they don't say what they mean in the listing.
Old carvings are a lot of fun to find!

Canopener, Quebec has a large carving community in St.Jean-Port Joli , lots of carvings are made for the tourist trade.
Here's a carving that I have from about the 50's it was done by a carver named Simon Dube , it's all from one piece , it should give you some idea of the type of carving done in this area.

Thanks for response. Speaking of beautiful work, Wade, your bird chair is really something to behold.
Gord, your carving is also very nice work, far nicer than this little guy. My impression is maybe Carl had to come up with grocery money quick, so he carved some simple figures for someone else to sell?

Isn't it magical what a person with a few simple tools can do with a piece of wood. It never ceases to amaize me...... a bit of wood, some time and talent and lots of creativity. Such inspiration!

Hello
I am new to this hobby but I found two carved wooden figurines in my closet that were my husband's grandfathers. One is an old sailor that has Albertina painted on his ches with an anchor below it. There is a faint signature on the bottm of CJ Trygg Sweden carved in canada 1928. I haven't found him on any Trygg websites and I was wondering if any of you have heard of this carving? I almost put him in my garage sale with a price of $1.00 but then I saw the signature and thought better of it. Does anyone know how much it is worth?
