| | Re: CCA EBAY Auction & 2006 Competition Mark,
Last year I entered my first piece...Mitchell is the big winner here!!
I hope to enter a few more this year, hey ya never know...although I just found out that i can't take vacation when the seminars are offered (vacation freeze again)...
Either way its a good way to enter a competition and compete against some of the best...give it a try it can't hurt and ya might walk away with some $$.
Some have railed against competition but for me it helps me focus on improving my composition. For example the carving I entered last year was called "Lonesome Dove" but since the name was only written on the back of the carving and covered for the judging since my signature was located in the same spot, the carving lost its meaning. I also took some classes after i had completed the piece from Gary Falin and the Bishop's in which they pointed out some room for improvement, such as making sure the figures head truly fits in his hat...
...I would have loved to join up with the gang in Charlotte sounds like it was fun and it's always nice to see others accomplishments!!! |

| | Re: CCA EBAY Auction & 2006 Competition Tony, Thanks for the recognition. Mark has won ribbons at Dollywood also. I believe that the Viking will do well this year too - if it makes it there. I am trying to arrange my schedule to spend more time there (CCA seminars) this year. I at least want to be able to do more than just drop my carvings off. |

| | Re: CCA EBAY Auction & 2006 Competition now that you mention it his name rings a bell...Akers rright? mark didn't you win for a gnome of sorts? That Viking is pretty cool and should be entered there!!
mitchell, you're a lucky dog getting to go, too many major projects at work and can't get away, fortunately I'll get to take another Phil & Vicki class in August. Now if i could just get some time to carve...it'll be nice to get Rick's carving cause then I'll have an excuse (can only keep it a week...) Another shame is that Mr. falin will be teaching at the Cambell Folk School again this summer but i don't think I'll convince the better half that i need to go two years in a row...(LOL!)
I must say its nice to see the number of Caricature carvers on the board grow, I'll be speaking at a local club next week and will have to promote the board as much as possible. |

Yea,I had a Gnome I think 2 years ago, this year I entered a Santa and a Carpenter.I really enjoy doing the competition, although one of the pieces I recieved back this year was broken. You got to exspect that in shipping, because I think if any one at the show damaged it they would have acknowledge it.I have had Gary at my house here for classes a few times and also the Bishops what a fun crew.I have really enjoyed having them all as house guests.I remember seeing the "lonesome dove",what a great carving it is. |

| | Re: CCA EBAY Auction & 2006 Competition I'm sure I won't be entering anything in the competition but will definitely be going down this year since Dollywood is only a two hour drive for me. I hope to see some of you all down there and see your work. I think Mark, Bart, and Mitch all have something to enter in the competition this year. Tony, if you decide to make the trip, let us know. It will be nice to meet you!

Tell us why you shouldn't enter the competition, cause I can't think of a reason why not!!! Yes it is nice to have a carving win in competition BUT, you must understand that if you were to enter you will probably create one of your best pieces as the competition will cause you to focus your skills and take a critical look at your carvings. THAT IS NOT A BAD THING. If for nothing else, enter because its fun!! (Mark, I can still picture the gnome...) | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
