| | Re: CCA 2005 Competition I'd be curious to hear comments from anyone who has entered and what they thought of it.
I'm considering trying to submit something, but given that I am far away, attending the show is not possible. Is it worthwhile to submit an entry via mail even though you cannot attend?
Granted, I guess it's worth it if you win, but I'm don't think I'm up to that standard.
Bottom line, is the "remote experience" worth it?

| | Re: CCA 2005 Competition I entered once, several years ago, what I didn't like is there are not categories or classifications, everyone that enters is competing with everyone else and a lot of the people that enter are master carvers....doesn't and didn't seem fair to me to the novices just getting started, or even the intermediate people....not competition that way I think! |

| | Re: CCA 2005 Competition I wanted to revive this thread for an update.
I recieved my carvings from Dollywood with a signed letter from all the CCA members and also got a WCI tee shirt - thank you.
I talked to a couple of the members and they encourage carvers to submit carvings - because you can never tell.... The competition is tough and many good carvings do not get awards, but based on the same conversation, many of those that did win were not thought to be be very good by the artist. Specifically, it doesn't hurt to send them in - only the cost of mailing.
While there are no divisions based on experience, there are multiple categories that do give quite a few opportunities for recognition. To answer Mike's question - yes it is worth it.
I won a 1st in the rough out category and had a fourth and fifth place in the miniature category. |

| | Re: CCA 2005 Competition While I have not received my carving back yet, I have to agree with Mitchell (even though I did not win a ribbon), it's a great competition with ample number of categories and even though I did not win I will continue to compete in the competition as I'm sure that my carving was beat by other great carvings. I don't think I would change much other than possibly limiting the number of carvings a carver is allowed to enter in each category. This would allow for more winners but might not allow for the best carvings.
The thing I look forward to most is seeing pictures of all the carvings, there's some great creativity out there! |

| | Re: CCA 2005 Competition Thanks Tony. There are lots of great carvings besides my one. I do wish that they could show more of the carvings that were submitted....not just the winners. The e-zine site will sometimes show more of the carvings - in January or February. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
