| | Catch Of The Day Here's what I just finished, this is from a Vicki Bishop roughout and is destined for my father-in-law (after a minor detour of course).
I'm going to make a base for him and then off he goes!
The finish on this carving was a first for me, the carving was washed and painted with acrylics while wet. Once the painting was completed it was dunked in BLO and left to sit wet for 15 mins. When the time was up I wiped the excess off and sprayed w/ Deft (Satin) and left to dry over night. This morning I applied a coat of Feed-N-Wax and buffed with a shoe brush. This finish method is one of many I will be trying over the next year, but I have to rate it highly as I like the carvings appearance.
Thanks for looking and if I messed up somewhere please let me know.

| | Re: Catch Of The Day That is an excellant carving and your detail is great. Even the fish is happy. I think your painting came out real well also but I don't know what you mean by washed. Did you actually wash it and put the acrylics on while wet and if so did you dilute them? |

| | Re: Catch Of The Day Thanks guys, it was a fun carving to do. Robert the carving is actually scrubbed with a denture brush after wetting it and spraying it with "Simply Green", this takes all of the pencil smudges and dirt from my little grubby fingers off the carving. It should be noted that once the carving is wet it has to be painted right then, you cannot let it dry and try and paint it. This is a big no-no (just ask Vicki!!). |

| | Re: Catch Of The Day Great job, Tony. I think the "washed acrylics" and BLO give it a very realistic look. Great expressions on the guy and fish....fun but not outlandish. |
