Great advice everyone! Those tips really help someone like me who don't know where to start! I will have to take a close look at that web site Tony and use some of the tips! I also think I have a good Eddie Bauer magazine laying around here some where. I never thought of that! Thanks again everyone for your comments. I figured this would be a good topic of discussion!

Rocket 39,
The book is soft cover, 60 pages, done in black and white. The first part is a brief bio with some pictures of him working or with his work etc. Then there are about 40 pages of his carvings. Most of them are several shots at different angles and close up. Hardly any of the work is painted.
If there is one thing I get from his work is that on one hand there is a tremendous amount of overall detail; but it is not overworked, some details are left out, and nothing is sanded. You can see the wood and all the tool marks.
I really like the book and the style he carves.
I got the book 2 years ago for $25.00. I think it came from:
Ira Weissman
New York Woodcarving Corp
240 Lafayette St.
New York, New York, 10012
Have to try good old snail mail. I do remember I found the address in Chip Chats, the vendor edition. I'll see if I canfind it again

I use my wife as a model and take pictures from different angles also i look at my clothes when I'm carving and do the folds i see there. I use a gouge then a "V" tool. Then when i paint i use base color with high lights and low lights to make them pop out.
High lights I just lighten the paint most case adding a little white then load brush by blending base and high light color and oppisite for the shadows.

I see you changed your name.....

As for wrinkles, the simpler the better - I look at my own or have my wife "pose" for me and mostly use a knife or #9 (or both).

Thanks again for everyone's post on this! I hope to work on more of my details during the next few months to get ready for a show in Charlotte.

Yep Mitch, I sent Bob a message when I got back from Hickory. Some people will probably think I am new here or something!

Thanks! By the way, great show in Hickory!
