The other is called "Wood CARVING", a British publication, hard to find if you don't get it by subscription.

The four of which I am aware from the U.S. are:

Chip Chats
Wood Carving Illustrated
Carving Magazine

and Wildfowl Carving Magazine which used be Wildfowl Carving and Collecting.

I get WCI, Carving Magazine and Chip Chats. I enjoy all 3 of them for different reasons. As some have said, Chip Chats doesn't offer many projects but they do offer lots of pictures. Carving Magazine are both good for their articles and projects. Of course, I am a beginner so I don't mind the beginner projects!

I also enjoyed Hugh's article in issue 8 of Carving Magazine. Still haven't had a chance to look at issue 9 yet.

I've also been working my way back through some old issues of Chip Chats and WCI. As I said, I enjoy them all even if they are different.

I like Carving Magazine.
In their early issues, WCI wasn't all that great. I have to say, the four tough critics were a bit rude...insulting even. I think they should have another look.
Ivan is one of my heroes...I'm hoping to get a spot in their picture gallery myself someday.

Hey artolver, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I for one didn't see any comments that were "rude" or "insulting" , might have ended up being slightly embarassing to one or two posters, but not rude or insulting since no one article author was centered out just the magazine in general.
As for Ivan Whillock, I agree whole heartedly with all commenst about him, I have collected all his articles from Chip Chats and even saved all his comments made in posts to Bill Judts woodcarving list over the years and yes I bought Ivans books as well and have no complaints about anything he has done or said.
If it was just about Marnie and Ivan I would surely have signed up for the magazine as well , but it's not, so for me it's Chip Chats which I think is still the best bang for a buck in the carving world and WCI which I think does a great job of providing interesting articles and projects, hey their forum aint half bad either.

OG.

Frankly, I'd welcome the same criticism of WCI! I'll be the first to admit that I don't know everything. I've learned a lot more since I've been hanging out on this board, but I still have A LOT to learn. If anyone has any problems with WCI, PLEASE let me know.

I really didn't think anyone was being rude, its just that when I read the part that said the ads were better than the articles, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to poke a little fun. Life is too short to take things seriously.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one who is dissapointed in a magazine. How does chip/chats do it/( 6 issues for $14.00 and NO ADVERTIZING) Too many photos and much ado about nothing, and most of that is repeat photos of the " other mags" I was in a Dr's office and scanned thru a Better Homes & Gardens mag. and did some math - 68% were ads. Go figure. Big Al
