| | Carving the Chuck Wagon Cook..Page II Just to update you on the progress of the Chuck Wagon Cook Blog, everything is falling into place. We've pretty well figured out a way to do multiple photos while still allowing some room for comment. You can check out the new format at the old address: www.outwestwoodcarving.blogspot.com
I have attached a photo to this thread of the progress so far. Should finish up the carving today and then it's on to the painting and final assembly. I've been taking lots of photos and once I get to a spot that I think I can safely launch this project I'll make the first post and let you all know.
This should be a pretty impressive piece from the way it looks in it's rough form. |

| | Re: Carving the Chuck Wagon Cook..Page II Looking good so far, Lynn. If you don't mind answering a few questions, I really like these carvings:
Which pieces are metal - crossbar and supports over the fire, S hooks, lid handle, ???
How deep do you cut back under the apron?
Do the eyeglasses on the finished one have glass (plastic) lenses?
Are the frames carved or wire?
What do you do to make the botom of creases so much darker - wipe on/wipe off some paint? If so, is it acrylic or oil, stain or paint? How do you keep it off the higher surfaces - care, remover, sanding, or ??? Do you re-apply it after painting, or it on right now jus to show us the textures better?
Thanks,
Claude |

This is a great concept, and I'm for sure going to follow along and learn from it.
On the pattern pic, length is 9" but what should width be?
Thanks , Bill |

| | Re: Carving the Chuck Wagon Cook..Page II Claude....Hopefully, all your questions will be answered as we go along with this project.
Coffeeman....The front profile is about 3 1/2" wide. Copy that profile photo to your computer, crop it to the top and bottom of the figures and then enlarge it to 9". That will give you the correct sized profiles of all the pieces.
Please note....if you have a question about a particular item being covered in the Blog, ask your question by using the "Comment" function at the bottom of the individual post. By doing it that way I get an email of your question and I can respond directly to you. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
