I sure like the camp Cook idea. And you can sign me up for a copy of the book. I remember seeing some of your camp cooks at the Dayton show a few years ago. The old flour sack aprons was a special touch. Can't wait.....ole country boy Myron

Some topics that are not generally covered in such texts but in which I have a great deal of interest are:
1. How is a subject selected for carving? What are the design considerations in selecting a subject? What role does ones carving style impact the design considerations? How do you imprint your carving style on the design of the character/scene? What role does uniqueness play in selecting the design.
2. How do you handle mid course errors? At some point in each carving something does not turn out the way we initially planned. How do you correct the error/incorporate the error into the design plan?
3. What is the relationship between realism and caricature. How do you select what is to be realistic and what is to be exaggerated?
4. How do you decide which details to emphasize?
I know that this makes text and not pictures but it is substantive material that an advaced or intermediate carver has a lot of interest in.

Lynn,
I think your approach is spot-on! I'd buy it just to learn more about composition and the proper creation of a scene...

Lynn, add me to the list of eager buyers!

Greyhair, have you taken a look at Dave Stetson's book? It addresses some of the items you asked about.

I have looked at Dave's Book and own it. I just want more and because there are major style differences between Lynn and Dave it would be great to see what infuences Lynn.

Hummmm, you think that thick coffee could have a little "bottled in Bond" in it, that would influence my carving! LOL

I've been goofing around with an idea of creating a Blog on woodcarving for quite sometime. Today, while the wife was away on her volunteer work and I had full access to the computer, I created a first attempt at www.outwestwoodcarving.blogspot.com Go check it out and tell me what you think. This will not be the final format as I can't load more than one photo per posting. We're working on that and there is a solution so the new format will have the ability of multiple photos. Will be a while before we get it up and running so there won't be any more postings on the Blog till then.

I'm going to do this idea before considering a book. There is the possibility of a lot more interaction on a blog, plus I can really go into detail on how I do certain things. I've already started the Chuck Wagon Cook. Today I made the coffee pot and Dutch Oven. I had started working on the Cook's body but, as the wife is taking the photos, had to set it aside while she was gone.
