| | How to carve a Hobo I started an article on the creative process of carving a hobo.
It was at the request of a hobo collector (and my best customer).
The article will probably take a few months to complete, but I will try to update it regularly.
It is at my Hobos in Wood site. http://www.hobosinwood.com/index.html
I agreed to do the article after realizing that I would gain insight into my own creative process by examining it step by step and documenting those steps.
I believe it will be much like teaching; where the instructor learns while teaching the students.

Off to a good start on this project, looking forward to the next installment.
BTW what program do you use to refine your pencil sketch once you have scanned the sketch into the computer?

| | | Re: How to carve a Hobo Excellant concept Rick, I'm looking forward to the updates, love all your hobo's and appreciate the side bar human interest story on each, as I read the background on each individual, you've seemed to have captured that in the carving. Well done. |

| | Re: How to carve a Hobo Thanks, I think it will be fun to do.
Gord, the program I use is "Picture-It"; I think it was $29.00 at Costco after a rebate. Before that, I used "Paint" that comes with your PC. |

| | Re: How to carve a Hobo You are welcome Rick, further to your project, it is this type of project that imparts very useful info to fellow carvers.
I saw a somewhat similar in scope project about carving a bobble-head caricature on he web just recently, again more useful info.
When carvers share this kind of info it is much appreciated, and in your case the taking of your time to do so is highly commendable.
Thanks Rick.

| | Re: How to carve a Hobo Rick,
I've already learned a couple of good things about sizing a figure. Thanks! I liked the points you made about the height of shelves in relation to the height of the figure and the fact that wood more than 4" thick gets expensive. Tips like that are great.
thanks again,

| | Re: How to carve a Hobo Thanks Rick been waiting for a free lesson from you. Would it be okay to print that out when finnished? I keep a 3 ring binder, since the WCI's come punched. I know some sights are print protected.
