Default Be Careful Out There

Hi All,

I have been around long enough to know better, but I didn't, so I am reminding all of you.

I am not sure exactly what happened, I am always careful - usually.

The knife slipped while cleaning out between arm and body of a figure. It cut the tip off my ring finger and buried itself in my palm! Ouch! Ugly! I really don't know what happened - shouldn't have been using that kind of force.

I have a nice glove - didn't wear it - easy work! I only got 5 stitches, but the doctor could watch the tendons working through the gash to verify there was no serious damage. Whew! Nothing they could do for the tip. They said it would heal over, but right now my left hand is out of business.

IT CAN HAPPEN! BE CAREFUL - WEAR YOUR GLOVE! WATCH YOUR HAND POSITIONS!

Thanks for posting Sam. Too many of us (me included) will skip putting on the protective gear that we should each use religiously. It's too easy to just pick up the wood and tools - and stop there.

Hope you heal quickly. I am sorry that it took another Doctor's visit to have a reminder - for all of us.

Mitch

Sam,
It was good that your glove was nearby, it is nice to have something to sop up the blood with.

That is exactly how the bad cuts happen; quick, unexpected,
and with the "ounce of prevention" nearby.

My two cents; I was packing my chisels away in a roll that was completly closed. I put it in my tool box but it was taking up too much room on one side, so I pulled the roll towards me and a chisel came thru the roll and embedded itself in the first fold of my index finger, cutting all the nerves. The good news is that whenever I cut that same finger - it doesn't hurt!. Sorry about the cut, but we all get them, mostly by foolish mistakes. Big Al

Thanks for the reminder, unfortunately it always takes things like this to make us do what’s right. We get into routines and we forget the small but very important things that keep us safe in everyday life ie; seat belts, helmets, goggles, and that pain in the neck glove.

Hope you get a quick recovery, I know its hard to hold the piece with them stitches in your hand.
