C.O. Trygg

I bought a carving yesterday that was carved by Carl Olaf Trygg in 1930. Â*It is a caricature golfer in period attire, preparing to drive a golf ball. Â*

This particular carving was carved by C.O. Trygg at age 20 during his stay in Canada. Â*

Rick, he's great, you must be so happy to own such a terrific piece!!
You know, a couple weeks ago a friend was commenting on the Santas I've been carving. She couldn't believe I could part with them. She does quilting (absolutely beautiful quilts) but only for family members and she hopes they always stay in the family.
I told her I love the idea that perhaps my Santas will become some other family's 'family heirloom'. Who knows, maybe seventy years from now (when I'm long gone) someone will be as happy to own one as you are to have Mr. Trygg's golfer! I like that thought!! Callynne

Maybe he was friends with Doc Wonmug. Who knows, it coulda happened!

Rick - Those light colored 'dimples' on his socks, are they carved in concave or just appear that way in the photo??

Until the carving arrives from the east coast, I can't say.
I will be sure to let you know.

If the other Tryggs in my collection are representative, they are just painted.

Either way it's an awesome piece ... wish I'd followed someones advice and bought one that was available on ebay!

Ed, No dimples in the socks.
There is some interesting shading and highlighting in the face though.

That's o.k. he's awesome anyway ... r.e. watercolors over linseed oil .. found a reference where the carver used a coat of clear danish oil, let it dry 24 hours, then water colors, let it dry 24 hours, then a coat of linseed oil (wiped off immediately) as a final sealer. No pictures though so couldn't say how it turned out.

I recently found about 10 carvings by C.O. Trygg(1951) in a flea market. I didn't know anything about him. I bought one because I loved it, brought it home and the next week went back and bought another. I loved it so much that I started to search the web to see if I could find out who he was. I have found out enough to justify buying the remaining 8 at very low prices of between $27 and $50 each. Where can I find out more about C.O. and his work? I'll post photos if anyone is interested.
