| | Artistry in Wood Dayton Hi All
Went to Dayton on Sunday and checked out the show. Saw some old friends and made some new.
The most impressive thing to me, (my first trip to Dayton) was the Dayton Woodcarvers Santa's Workshop. You could look at it for hours and miss something. Santa's mutt watering the Christmas tree was what caught my warped eye.
Most helpful carver I met was Floyd Rhadigan from MI. Really nice characters, good prices on roughouts very helpful with tips.
The neatest characters I saw was a rooster guarding an egg, and a lady playing four slot machines at once using her foot to pull one lever.
Some very cool carvings and a most humbling experience.
Sooo does anyone else have a Dayton tale to tell?

Do not even tell me that you looked at all that great stuff and never took any pictures. I do not want to even hear that. You could not have been so selfish.

Unfortunately my camera did very little good sitting in the cupboard at home. However one of the fellow I went with did take some photos and I will try to get a copy them for the posting.
Sorry

I am in the same Carving Club with Floyd in Saline, MI we meet every Wednesday night carve a bit chew the fat, then go to the local pub and chew the fat a bit more.
He is a great carver, FAST and very busy, I've not carved under him as of yet but all the local classes he gives are allways full.
I was at Dayton as well only took 138 pictures with my slow digital camera.
I was impressed by the size of the thing, my wife went with me and she said as we were walking in we'll probably see it all in abt 1 1/2 hrs, 3 hrs later we still had not seen it all. I like carving bark and I saw alot of interesting pieces of carved bark. Santas, Woodspirits, you name it it was there. I will send a few pics of intrest...
