Default Anyone tried something different?

Has anyone ever tried something different with woodcarving, like a big superhero like spiderman or something. I've only ever seen them made of clay but I think it would look good in wood. I'll give it a go, probably made out of lime or something. Bear (i think thats how you spell it) in mind I'm a beginner and this would probably take a long time. But eventually ill post it up.

I'm not into superheros and have never carved any BUT, I do visit a few forums that are populated by the folks that sculpt the superheros for some of the major toy makers. You probably already have the link but just in case you don't here is a good place to visit and see some fantastic sculpts and sculptors:

I've been collecting pic's of Jack Sparrow. I'm thinking about doing a mask of Jack when I get finished with my current project. He's not a "superhero" but an interesting study just the same.

Hey Steve, that is a great web site thanks for posting it. Defintely going in the Favarites.

I've got a few more sites such as that one bookmarked on the computer at work. I'll post a couple of more when I get back at work. Glad you found it interesting. Sure is a lot of talent scattered around that we quite often never hear of.

I've been tempted to try doing some of the characters from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Just haven't worked up the nerve yet. They look like fun but one heck of a lot of work. Good luck with your mask idea. I'm anxious to see it.

Here are a couple of more links to sites that go along with the one I posted earlier. Have Fun.

About half way down the main page on Statueforum is "Sculptors Corner". That's a great place to see WIP

Anita, your house sounds about like ours. Especially my wife, movies are her thing.

here is a profile drawing I did of Jack. The front view is still too light to scan or photograph but I can post it later if you want.
I posted both the scan and a digital pic. because the scanner isn't picking up everything.

Ah yes, I can relate, movies are very much "our thing" as well. When we find one we really like, we watch it over and over! Haha. Have seen POTC a million times and of course own a copy.

Thanks for sharing a peak at your drawing, it's right on. My daughters are looking over my shoulder at it, those little Jack Sparrow/Johnny Depp admirers. Jessy told me to say "tell him it looks awesome!" So there ya go!

Are you doing a carving from this drawing? You MUST share a pic of it if you do. You won't probably find bigger POTC fans this side of the Mississippi who would just love to see it.
