I haven't been back to this post for awhile but suggest you get hold of Mike at the 'flying dutchman' site (he is also on here as 3_m) I haven't tried them yet but hear they are to a scrollsaw what the wolf blades are to a bandsaw...invaluable!!

A year ago or so I bought a nice little benchtop bandsaw off of eBay for $80 or $90. The brand name is Rand. This little saw works very well on 1' to 2' stock. I have since bought a 14' saw for my larger projects but still use my Rand for the small stuff & keep a thin blade on it for just this purpose.

I've had luck using a scroll saw to cut 3/4 inch stuff, it works great for me, its a Ryobi brand that I bought at home depot, its also variable speed maybe thats the difference.

For something as you are suggesting you might want to look at the Delta scrollsaws which you can get at Lowes. I think a scrollsaw will give you better adaptability with what you want to cut out. Now that I read your further comments about cutting 1&1/2' thick wood you are better off with a bandsaw. Again I would look at the Delta saws. You aren't going to get much for $200, but a (' saw would be good for what you are doing. JTTHECLOCKMAN

Go to sears for $200.00 I can get a bandsaw, scrollsaw, & jigsaw. One of them will cut what you want.
