Smile young carver

My grandson is getting interested in carving and I plan to give him a subscription to woodcarving magazine for Christmas and would like to give him a set of carving tools also. I would prefer to find a set that is not very expensive until I find out if he will stick with it. Anyone have a suggestion for a set for a young carver?

Thumbs up Re: young carver

Little Shavers has a beginners set for a reasonable price .. but if your not sure if hes interested .. start off with just a knife and let him carve easy projects .. in time you will know

I agree with Gene, I just purchased the beginners kit from little shavers for my first set. I have no other tools to compare them to but I'm very happy with them. Sharp, and comes with strop, compound, glove, edge protectors and all in a little box.

Thanks for quick reply. Where can I get the beginners kit from little shavers? I forgot to say that my grandson has worked with wood for awhile. I have been scrolling and doing intarsia for about 8 or 9 years and my husband does custom furniture.. We have twin grandsons that I started teaching to scroll last year. They intered some of their creations in state fair . One of them won blue and the other red. This one that I am talking about took a root knot hollowed it out smooth it out mounted it on an antler and then put it on a walnut base that he routered himself. So to some extent I know that he is really interested in woodworking.

Here's the link to the Little Shavers beginner's kit. Great site and wonderful people to deal with:
