Default Woodturing lathe

Hi,
What tool would I use to round a block of wood so I can use it on a woodturning lathe? I know I can use a knive and then sand it but that would take forever. Isn't there any quick accurate tool to round a block of wood?

Brian, there are a couple things you can do....first a small axe or carpenter's hatchet can be used to knck off the corners. If you have either a bandsaw or table saw, set the blade at 45degrees and simply rip off the corners. That should bring you to a point where you won't have all that chatter as the corners are turned off.
