| Rick Ferry of Little Shavers fame has a good discussion of carved faces. While not a tutorial, it does make some interesting points and is worth looking over. Aimed more at caricature carving, it will still assist you in learning to carve a wood-spirit face.

Jan just came out with a woodspirit book that has a study cast that goes with it. http://www.foxchapelpublishing.com/p...ls.cfm?PC=2198 I've taken classes with Jan and he really has some quick methods that really work. I'll be getting my copy when I see him at the GOW in September. Always good to have a refresher course handy too. And welcome to the group. Krum

I highly recommend the Oak Man tutorial on this forum. It is wonderful. I followed it step by step and learned a lot. I am also obsessed with wood spirits now....I just started my fourth one. Joy |

Welcome Jeral, I started my woodspirit carving interests with books, I found having the step by step pictures right om my workbench as I carved made a BIG difference for me. Of course, a laptop with a CD can do the same. But the advise I'd like to pass on is this. In the beginning, don't be thinking about the complete finished piece just yet, as you carve, you'll make modifications to your original design thoughts because you'll start to see things develope, so go with the flow and feel free to be creative. Good luck and looking forward to seeing your first picture. Bill

Thanks for all the help! I've vastly improved in just a few days, though I'm not anywhere close to good yet. Thanks for the welcome aboard all! Carry on. Cool
