I have the one for the nose and the one for the eye. I like them. They help a bit more than just a picture because you can check out the depth around the area and see how the blending happens (this is certainly important in a wood spirit).

As for anything else, some are better than some others...

I have a few, and some were not worth buying, but some helped me a lot and are still my favorites.

It is best to buy one from a wood carver you know and like the style

I bought mine from Smoky Mtn. Woodcarvers (A wood spirit study stick by Billy Reynolds & an eye study stick). I use them all the time & some of the best advice I've gotten from this forum is practice, practice, practice! We're also making study sticks in our carving club.

We've got a new set of sticks coming out. Harold Enlow spent a week at our office carving each one while we photographed them and wrote captions for the photos. We'll be running magazine article based on the carving process, and will have study sticks along with pamphlets showing step-by-step photos on the carving process.

Best Regards,

Our club has put our order in for the Enlow series from Fox. Like gtech said some are better than others, these look to be very good. I guess they will be shipping in May and June. Practice always goes better for me when it goes step by step.
Carve On,
