Jim, you're probably right. I walked away from all that 5 years ago and rarely look back without opening my mouth just to change feet.

At the end of the day then, Cupressus sp. and Cypress sp. are two genera in the Cupressaceae? They most certainly are not one and the same thing.

According to confiers.org, Cupressacea (commonly referred to as "the Cypress family") contains 28 genera. The genus Cupressus contains 25 species, most of which have a common name that includes the word "cypress." There are a few "cypress" species in other genera, but most of them are in Cupressus. As far as I've been able to determine, there is no genus called "Cypress."
