Welcome to the forum! Is that "Ca"lifornia, or "Ca"nada? One place to look is over on the left side of the screen under WCI Community. Click on the link to Calendar of Events. When you finish looking there, Click on the link to Carving Resources. When finished with that one, try the Carving Contests (many contests also offer carving classes). Then, finally, try the link to Carving Clubs. Enter your state or province in the pulldown menu and click the box for Wood Carving. If there is a club within driving distance, go visit on a club meeting night. Usually a great place to learn about the different tools and often be able to try them out. Also a good place to learn how to sharpen a tool and keep it sharp enough to carve wood. If all these fail, check your local Senior Center - they often have classes. Claude |

The nice thing about wood carving is that you can learn pretty effectively without any formal instruction. This is especially true with the incredible number of tutorials available online, particularly on YouTube. Gene Messer and Arleen are two carvers who have created a huge number of carving videos, many of which are very appropriate for beginners. I maintain indexes of their videos. Check out these two pages: Gene Messer’s Carving Videos Arleen (Carverswoodshop) Carving Also, don't miss my own picture tutorial: Carving the Whittle Pup
