I am looking for a supplier of the Jumbo Red Pencils that the 1st grade kids use in school. Any ideas?

What you are looking for are #1 pencils. They should be common (although I do not know if they are strctly red). You probably can find them at WalMart if not I would call an office supply store.

Tony you use to be able to get those pencils from The Woodcraft Shop, The WoodCraft Shop - Online Store. I didn't see them on there web site but I have bought some from them before, I would give them a call,1-800-397-2278. Doggylv |

Not sure if they're the same but Dixon makes "My First Ticonderoga". They're painted yellow with green lettering, made from red cedar wood, have an HB lead, and are about 3/8" in dia. They're great for doing carpentry work. I see them all the time in the food stores and drug stores--especially now since it's "Back to School" sale time. Bob L, those are not the right kind of pencils to carve, the ones needed aren't even made out of wood but some kind of resin or plastic. Dick Keller, Whittle Things - Hand Carved Santas, carves pencils and may be able to give Whittlinaway a source, if The Woodcraft Shop no longer carries them. Doggylv |

Ok--Thanks for setting me straight, Doggylv. Never tried carving pencils--I usually just draw with them. LOL Bob L |

Good luck with the "carving pencil" search. My wife spent an entire day on the internet and phone only to discover that the one company that "used" to make them no longer does. Turns out that all pencils are back being made out of cedar again! I guess the plastic ones are no longer "politcally correct". Just what we've found. Our usual source in Bettendorf IA can no longer get them either. Grrrr
