The way I got started was out of boredom. I was laid off and going nuts. No money to do anything to the house, so one day I was out on my patio with a utility knife. I found a peice of wood in the garage and started hacking away at it. It looked like a face. After that I started investigating the internet. Gene Mesner was all it took to get me going! Then I bought a few xacto carving knives and thats was it . Bought some bass wood bought some more knives and blades and I carve when I can. GET A GLOVE! I have an ER bill that shows why someone should carve with a proper glove. I use steel woven filet gloves from bass pro shop. No cuts since!

Have fun!
