Default Walking sticks

What is the best way to seal or water proof (as close as you can get) a walking stick?

Hi RI-1,

I don't know about waterproofing, but I seal my sticks with Watco Danish Oil.

I like Minwax Antique Oil Finish. It penetrates and seals nicely, and the more coats, the more shine to the finish.

I've had real good luck using "Spar Varnish". Several companies make it (pure or with poly-urethane added). If it's good enough for boats, it ought to be safe for a few monsoons.

I use water based exterior grade varathane diamond finish and for real tough applications I use spar varnish. I believe spar varnish is superior but it is a dark varnish that alters wood and paint colors.
