Not quite the same, but these are mostly books on canes - with the carvings added to the top instead of carved onto the stick:

As Wood-Whittler mentioned - Mark Gargac has a tutorial that's very good - a direct link to a previous post:

Woodspirit Tutorial

Lora "Irish" also has a tutorial on her web site:

These are pretty small "sticks" but here's a detailed explanation of carving wood spirits on pencils (some are even made of cedar)

Dennis I think what I saw was in a tip section. I spent a good part of the week-end going through my magazines looking for it. (something I always enjoy). I did find an article in carving magazine issue one on carving wood spirit carving sticks in cedar by a Greg Wilkerson. I hope this helps.

Robert, Where can I get a copy of this magazine, or at least the pages on carving wood spirits in cedar walking staffs?

Thanks for all the input.

Here is a link to a wood spirit carving lesson. The same principle can be used on a stick, only on a smaller scale. The second link has some good information about stick carving. And welcome.

JFY1939.
You might check with your local bookstore or find a new issue and see if they have any back issues for sale.
