Default Using Branches for balusters?

New member here, so hello!

Can anyone direct me to information on how to use tree branches as baluster's for stairs/decking (like Adirondack style)? Thanks!

Treeline sells what they call a tenon cutter for making your own log furniture. They also have video's and books.

Just about any book about building rustic furniture will have great tips for working with branches and such. But Building stairs By Fine Homebuilding, Kevin Ireton has a great chapter "A Balustrade of Branches" and is an excellent source for information.
Google search shows that part of the book and pictures.

There are step by step instructions here.

Very basic and not much detail but they should give you an idea of what's involved.

For mortise and tenon joints, I couldn't justify the expense of the retail tenon cutters. I've always drilled the hole and used drawknives, spokeshaves and rasps to make the tenon to fit.

Good luck with your project ;-)
