Default two problems

I have a couple of problems that have occured.
1. the first picture is a spoon. How do I make a smooth curve on the inside curve at the top of the spoon handle? I seem to just leave little knife skid marks. The more I work at it, the worse I seem to make it.
2. The 2nd and 3rd picutre is a chain. I think this may have fallen or has gotten knocked and the top chain has snapped off. How do I fix this?

for the spoon curve, I would use a sanding drum on a rotory tool...like a dremel.

For the chain, a little Elmer's glue and a little time...

Take some sandpaper and wrap it around a dowel. Put some elmers or wood glue along the overlapping edge and put several rubber bands around it until it dries. You can use it manually or possibly chuck it in a drill. I use pvc pipe for bigger sizes.

Thanks for the help. I've glued the break and I'll figure out how to get the sanded.

I think the spoon could be worked with a skew gouge. I have some made by flex cut that are a gouge and not just flat. They work really great for things like what you have.

Good luck!

Try "slicing" as you push the chisel thru the cut...

Rather than just push the chisel straight along the line of the cut, move the chisel from the ridge (the center line) down to the outside edge as you push it.....almost the same motion as sharpening a gouge.
You might also try cutting it at a 30 or 45 degree angle rather than along the length.

Depending on what you're trying for, tool marks add to the charm and prove that it is carved by hand. As far as the spoon, try a hook knife or skorp. pics as you progress!
