Default Two New Ghosts - Thanks Gene!

At our family reunion last week I got to work with the grandkids to make their first carving. The ghost by Gene Messer was used and both kids made their first carving. Photos show their results. Older boy is 14 and younger boy is 10.

I will tell them that the compliment came from "the man who made the video" that they watched before coming to the reunion. It was the first time they had been allowed to use a "sharp" knife. It took each one about five hours to get it carved and painted, but they stayed with it to the finish Cheersand were proud of their ghost. Once they learned that if they made a mistake they could "make a different ghost" they dived right in.

Thanks, again.Thank You

O WOW! What a great project for the kids! How lucky for you! AND THEM! I can see this is something my boys would like...did you use basswood? Thanx

What a special memory. They'll probabbly tell their grandkids some day about the time grandpa taught them to carve. I can't wait until my kids are old enough to carve.

Keoma, yes, it was basswood. I used a friend's band saw to roughout the legs to make it easier (it's nice to have friends with tools... ). The hardest part was them choosing colors that were different from mine and from the brother's colors. This was a great project for a first project because you use many different cuts and "v" cuts to make the wrinkles, etc. Obviously a 10-year old can make a ghost!
