Would carbon paper work for taking a picture and putting it on wood? Is there other methods?

Graphite paper works well. It is used like carbon paper but has no solvents in it. This makes lines easy to erase. It is widely available.

Another method, if you are going to use a bandsaw to cut out the rough shape, is to just use some rubber cement and glue the pattern to the wood. Then cut with a band saw just outside the lines. Claude |

Randy... Carbon Paper works great if its all that you have but it leaves a greasy residue which is very hard to remove from the wood (especially if it gets down into the grain). The graphite paper that Dicky suggested is a better alternative and is available in most craft stores here in the states. It will easily wash off a carving with a little dish soap (dawn or Ajax) and water.

If you type in "pattern transfer" in the search function, you might find something useful. Here's a link to a list of possible tips: www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/search.php?searchid=695626 |
