Default tool recommendations

Hi everybody I'm kind of new to carving and have been carving for about a year .Right now I'm trying to teach myself how to carve woodspirts in walking sticks .I bought a flexcut carving jack which is nice to take with me but I need to get some tools for home use and was wondering what kind of tools are of good quality(keeps an edge forever ) lol.And also what types of sizes are used more.Should I buy them separate or as a starter kit? I know this might be a touchy subject but all opinions are welcome.Money is a concern I even thought of buy used on ebay! Thanks Mike

Welcome to the board!

I'd suggest Rick's starter kit at www.littleshavers.com You'd be sure to get sharp tools at a decent price.

I agree Rick's
but I suggest you speak with him , so you get something suited to what you want. It makes no sense to purchase palm tools , if you want full chisels for what your going to be doing. Rick will be able to help you on this.

You already know the quailty of flexcuts so why not them. Of course there are some that don't like them. That is ok as they are entitled to their opinion also.
But what has been said already, Rick of little shavers.

Hi Neighbor,
Dick Belcher has made up starter kits for specific purposes and can get you going with what you need for what you want to do. I have been very satisfied with what he gave me, and very economically, at that. Larry
