them taga nuts are beautiful in color, I like the ivory or corian might be better for , my question.

wonder if you could join them to make a knife handle in any way, like slicing them flat as possible and epoxy them together and turn them on lathe,?

anybody ever tried something that harebrained with them?

dang even the spell checker is giving me a rough time today....

I had been googling tagua nuts to find out more about them and they come from palm trees but none of the stuff on google told me what kind of palms....there are more than one variety that produce them. If I had found this out a few years ago, I would have been tempted to try to obtain some seeds to grow the palm...since palms do really well here. But since we are planning to leave the area in a year or two at the most, it hardly seems worth the effort now. But somebody should look into growing those palm trees here....

Hi,
Please visit the Blog below. I am trying to write about the natural products we use in Ecuador for handcrafting.

I will post something with technical information about Tagua soon.
Meanwhile, the science name for Tagua is:

"...Evidently those similarities were not lost on early botanists who named the palm Genus Phytelephas-”elephant plant.”

http://www.ecuadorianhands.com/blog-...c-ivory-tagua/

If you need I can ship tagua nuts for carving to you.
https://ecuadorianhands.com/product_...roducts_id=292

I hope this would help.
Thanks,

Equadorian Hands....
if you click on the link in the post, it should bring you to that article right up on your computer so you can print it from there..... I just clicked on the link in the post post and it came right up.

I think these trees should be grown commercially. They would be a good crop to raise and feed a growing industry.....

Thanks for your post.
Actually these trees grow wild. But we are working with the communities of rural areas in Ecuador where tagua grows to protect the rain forest. These people are very poor. We are organizing them and promoting their products thru www.EcuadorianHands.com
We also ship tagua nuts for carving FYI

Thanks again.
