Talking TA-DA! My firtst 2 projects

I could not have done it without your help everyone.

Your encouragement with my wood selections, what sort of tools to get and how to start were so helpful.

The first photo was the first project. Not very spoon-like, but I patterned it off a kitchen utensil that I use all the time. I figured square and flat would be easier to start with.

The second photo is the second attempt. A coffee scoop for my husband. This one has "issues", but it was a great learning experience. The handle is too thin, and there is a slight crack. BUT, I learned how to carve a bowl and the spoon interior, and I learned to not over-dry in the micro, and I learned to take the amount of material that will be sanded off into account in the finished project.

Both are maple with a flaxseed oil finish.

I'm happy with both projects and that is what counts. I have started (which is always the hardest part) and I am gaining knowledge about where I want to go and what I need to learn.

Thank you again for all your help.

Renee

Nice job on these first projects and especially liked that you're actually using them. That makes them even more personal and special. Keep up the good work and continue pushing yourself out of the previous "comfort" zone and push yourself to the next level. Thanks for sharing the pictures!

Renee, I really like them both, very creative on your part. I particularily like the first one, I enjoy the rustic look. Isn't it great, you created art and yet it is also functional, (makes a whole lot of sense to me). Keep the pix comming girl, yer doin fine.

Nice work! And the good news is you started carving really hard wood. There are many good carving woods left for you to try that are much easier to carve them maple; not all as pretty as maple, but much easier. Keep carving and sharing. Mike
