You can get a wicked edge just honing on the colored print of the Sunday's comics.

Seems a lot of people are allergic to wedding rings now a days !
LOL...good one Hi Ho! I kept wearing my first one (white gold) until my ring finger was inflamed so much that my family doc threatened to cut it off. It took some doing, as is, to get it off (a little oil helped a lot). I felt horrible about it, and wore it on a chain around my neck for a couple months until my wife surprised me with the new titanium band (with three diamonds to celebrate our three year anniversary) for Christmas. It's funny...the titanium band cannot be resized...they just give you a new band if you need it resized. A little polishing of your used band, and it's good as new. My wife and I joke that if there was ever a nuclear holocaust, the cockroaches would be left with my wedding ring!

I doubt if there really is a "Magic Strop" or a "best" compound. I've tried just about everthing there is and every one of them seems to work just fine. I've even used a sheet of crocus cloth on a flat board and that worked. My advice would be "try 'em all, and take your pick> or pick your favorite! hehehe

Lot of good suggestions I can incorporate into the strop, and the compound will just be selected on the basis of what I already have.

Dave: Maybe it IS chaulk

Interesting concept...chemically speaking, chalk is calcium carbonate (limestone, antacids...all the same chemical formula CaCO3) so...technically, chalk probably WOULD work as a strop compound...

dave i bought some of the white hone compound from micheals, its walnut hollow brand,
to use it i couldnt get it to rub on the hone so i sanded it over the hone and used the dry powder, it was better than nothing, but as bob d said i thought it was chalk,,,

you are right, its hard and crumbly, more like chalk....but it does work great on paper or cardboard.....I used to do graphic arts for a print shop and used an exacto knife all the time....they are useless unless a razor edge, the compound and a piece of bond paper is how I kept it sharp.....

I use a split level stone(Arkansas type). One side is rough and the other is fine with a built in polish.Don't ask where I got it because it was given to me.The strop I use is a leather belt with tweety bird all over it.My wife bought it for me for work.I said do you expect me to go to a construction site and do electrical work with tweety bird all over it.Needless to say it became a strop.Between the stone and the leather belt I keep all my chisels in great shape.I really like the length of the belt because I can take long sweeps back and forth.Works for me
